Tezuka's comics look outward to the world, too: his influences are decisively international. Individual frames, as McCarthy points out, reference Captain Nemo, Frankenstein – and isn't that Mickey Mouse's hat from Fantasia? The backgrounds are pure Fritz Lang, full of hovercars reminiscent of chrome-crusted American cars from the 1950s. Astro Boy himself is a reimagining of Pinocchio (who is, perhaps, a semi-cutesy descendent of the Golem, the creature from Jewish myth made of inanimate matter).

LONDRES - O cantor folk britânico Yusuf Islam vai subir ao palco no domingo em sua primeira turnê completa desde 1976, quando ainda era conhecido como Cat Stevens e era mundialmente famoso por sucessos como "Wild World" e "Morning Has Broken".
Hoje Islam tem 61 anos e está prestes a consolidar seu retorno gradual ao mundo da música pop, depois de desaparecer totalmente desse cenário após sua conversão ao islamismo, em 1977.
Nos últimos anos ele tem feito aparições esporádicas em palcos espalhados pelo mundo. Em 2006 ele gravou um novo álbum pop, "An Other Cup", e, no início deste ano, lançou "Roadsinger".
O cantor disse que suas gravações recentes o encorajaram a lançar-se em sua primeira turnê em 33 anos.
"Trinta e três anos são muito tempo. Acho que eu nunca imaginei que voltaria a sair em turnê", disse ele à Reuters no estúdio Elstree, em Londres, onde vem ensaiando para sua turnê de quatro apresentações.

A couple of weeks ago my Scottish friend asked me what I'd been listening to recently. Maybe it was the terrible news I'd just received, or the fact that I was cooking supper, or the kids who were shouting in my ears (one each), or whatever else, but I drew a blank. Here, then, by way of a partial answer is a short mix of some of the stuff that's passed through my ears over the last few months.
