CASE DONAHEW BAND - Moving On

2009 The Casey Donahew band blends the traditional style of country music with a little pop and rock-n-roll to give the music a unique sound that these boys have created in their eagerness to bring a new sound to the music scene.
There is no mystery behind the Casey Donahew Band. It is nothing more then a dream that is being brought to life through four guys who are all determined to see their dreams in the music industry come true. The Casey Donahew Band is finally beginning to master the goals they have set for themselves as musicians. The rich and powerful blend of strong vocals amazing lead guitar and solid rhythm sets this band apart from other musicians in their genre.
The band is greatly influenced by Pat Green, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Jack Ingram. They are very true to their Texas roots and call their music pure Texas Country

RADNEY FOSTER - Revival

2009 As a general rule, I don’t have much time for country music; I developed a distaste for it during the early ’90s, when its Garth Brooks-led resurgence meant any critic who wanted to stay on top of things had to listen to plenty of Joe Diffie, Travis Tritt, and Restless Heart, and that bad first impression is reinforced every few years when I go back to the country charts to make sure my tastes haven’t shifted. Much of what I listen to has country influences, though, and there are a few country-ish artists on my short list — Lyle Lovett is one of my favorites, as is Mary Chapin Carpenter, and then there’s Radney Foster.

CHRISTOPHER PRIM - Clean House

2009 Once upon a time, deep in the woods of northern California, there lived a singer/songwriter named Christopher Prim, who liked to write and play music, and occasionally went to the trouble of recording it. One year he bought a multitrack recorder, and painstakingly learned to use it. Sitting by his woodstove, he hammered out take after take, and edited the be-jesus out of some of his favorite heartfelt and rascally tunes.
Christopher wasn’t one of those people who needed to proudly tell you his recordings were done all in one take. His perfectionism didn’t run that way. In fact, you may hear a few pops and pings from the woodstove in a couple of places. But some people like that, as opposed to the sterile silence of most studio recordings.
St Vincent's Latinaires- Supersound Orchestra (1972)
Back from Notting Hill carnival I had the urge to share some caribbean sounds —and this slice of heavy calypso-tinted funk and soul hails from the island of St Vincent, so that's a good place to start.
Not much is known about the band apart from their exotic origin, but the music speaks for itself, blending sweet soul with caribbean rhythms, and a few noteworthy incursions into sweaty, downright funky music such as their infamous covers of "Hot Pants" and "Roasted or Fried".
So don't be fooled by the touristic cover and grab it!
Enjoy it!

Great Scots!

To announce my return from holiday in a rather festive style, here comes APB! Those of you who may have been alive and kicking in the mid 80's music scene in upstate New York may have been keen on this Scottish trio who seemed to have developed a good following in that particular region due to some key DJ's granting praise and support. And support and praise where due; because this forgotten album rules with it's sparse, skeletal funk arrangement, jagged guitar lines, and a healthy dose of New Wave danceability, APB simply seemed to push all the right buttons in this game. Shame that they were never really the big deal in global popularity seeing as just about every one of these numbers on this re-released 20th anniversary edition of their Something To Believe In record absolutely kills. Think the musical muscle of Boys Don't Cry era The Cure, Franz Ferdinand, or a less political Gang Of Four; mix in the discriminating songwriting power of early U2 or Talk Talk and you've got yourself a great record brimming with an urgent manic energy yet classy enough to hold it together with style.
YOU WILL BELIEVE!
Helmet Of Gnats - Helmet Of Gnats (2004) @320

Hello friends and music lovers, as some of you know I am a member of swapacd, where we trade used cd's. I was a bit surprised when I recieved this one because it was brand new and still in the wrapper. I had a feeling the band sent it out, when i checked the location it was Stamford CT. when I looked at the cd, it was recorded in Stamford CT. So I sent the sender this message.....Thank you very much.............You guys ROCK!!
Thats when I noticed the sender was Chris F. I looked at the CD and sure enough the lead guitar players name is Chris Fox.
Here's his reply:
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed the Cd...look for a new one entitled "High Street", due out in the next couple months.
best,
Chris Fox.
"Something different"
Helmet of Gnats (HOG) consists of Matt Bocchino keyboards, Mark Conese drums, Chris Fox guitar and Wayne Zito bass. This is the only HOG album I've heard so I can't compare it to any other releases they may have. To me they sound like a jazz-fusion band but their website describes the music as instrumental progressive rock.
